After your Tanology spray tan, your colour needs time to properly develop on the skin. During this development period it’s important to keep your skin completely dry to allow the tanning solution to process evenly.
Avoid anything that may introduce water, sweat or moisture to the skin until your first rinse.
This includes:
• Showering or bathing
• Swimming, spas or saunas
• Exercise or activities that cause sweating
• Getting caught in rain or excessive humidity
Moisture during this time can cause the tan to develop unevenly or create marks on the skin.

Your Tanology spray tan needs time to develop before your first rinse. Your therapist will advise the exact development time during your appointment based on the solution used and the depth of colour you would like to achieve.
At Tanology, most of our spray tans develop between 1–4 hours. The longer the solution is left on the skin, the deeper the colour result will be.
To give you an idea of the colour depth:
• 1 hour – A light glow, like a weekend down the coast
• 2–3 hours – A deeper golden tan, like a week away in Queensland
• 4 hours – Our deepest colour, think a fortnight in Bali
Your therapist will always guide you on the best development time for your Tanology spray tan in Canberra to achieve your desired result.
When it is time for your first rinse, allow the water to run over your skin and wait until the water runs clear before stepping out of the shower. This is simply the cosmetic bronzer washing away while your developed tan remains on the skin.

Exfoliating removes the outer layer of skin — which is exactly where your spray tan sits and develops. For this reason, avoid using scrubs, exfoliating mitts, brushes, or active exfoliating skincare while your tan is fresh.
Exfoliation will cause your spray tan to fade faster and unevenly, which can shorten the life of your colour.
To keep your Tanology spray tan looking its best, stick to gentle body washes and avoid:
• Body scrubs or exfoliating gloves
• Strong acids or active skincare on the body
• Dry brushing or polishing treatments
Once your tan has naturally faded, you can return to regular exfoliation to prepare your skin for your next spray tan at Tanology Canberra.

While your spray tan is developing, your skin can be more prone to marking if it is rubbed or wiped. If your skin becomes damp from humidity, light sweating, or accidental water contact, gently pat the area dry rather than rubbing.
Rubbing the skin while the tan is developing can disturb the solution and create uneven patches or streaks.
To help your Tanology spray tan develop evenly, we recommend:
• Gently patting skin dry if it becomes damp
• Avoiding rubbing the skin with towels or clothing
• Being mindful of areas where skin naturally rubs together
Being gentle with your skin during this time helps ensure your spray tan develops smoothly and evenly.

Moisturised skin helps your tan fade more evenly and last longer. We recommend using a gentle moisturiser with low alcohol content, as high levels of alcohol can dry the skin and cause your spray tan to fade more quickly.
Your tan will also continue to fully develop for up to 24 hours after your first rinse, so keeping your skin hydrated during this time will help support the final colour.
For best results after your Tanology spray tan in Canberra, we recommend:
• Moisturising daily after your first rinse
• Choosing moisturisers low in alcohol
• Avoiding heavily fragranced or drying products
Healthy, hydrated skin will help your spray tan stay even, natural looking and longer lasting.

Waxing removes hair by lifting it from the follicle, but it also removes the top layer of skin — which is exactly where your spray tan sits. Because of this, waxing will remove your tan in the treated area.
If you wax after your appointment, you can expect the spray tan to lift or disappear in that area.
To help your Tanology spray tan last as long as possible, we recommend avoiding treatments that remove or heavily exfoliate the skin, including:
• Waxing
• Strong exfoliation or body scrubs
• Skin polishing or resurfacing treatments
For the best results, plan any waxing or hair removal before your spray tan appointment. This helps your spray tan in Canberra develop smoothly and last longer.
